On Tuesday, October 28th, the English as a New Language (ENL) Fall Festival, an event organized by the ENL department, took place at J. Fred Sparke Elementary School. The event was attended by elementary, middle, and high school multilingual students who enjoyed various activities.
Some of the activities included face painting, pumpkin picking and decorating, and various games coordinated by our physical education teachers. Also there was a hayride where children and adults could ride around the elementary school’s Halloween-themed playground! In addition to student and family participation, our ITHS ENL teachers (Mrs. Camisa and Ms. O’Neill) also enjoyed the festival. “The Fall Festival is one of my favorite times of the year because we can see students and families experiencing some of the fall traditions. I love to see students helping each other with face painting and enjoying some delicious pumpkin bread made by the high school students. It’s so nice to spend some time with students outside of the class”, Mrs. Camisa said. Also, we can’t forget the pumpkin bread that the students from the High School Bake Shop made, which several families loved and that with great effort the students made!
The ENL Fall Festival ended with Island Trees joy and unity. Students, families, and teachers shared activities and experiences that strengthen the school environment. This festival demonstrated that celebrating diversity not only fosters language learning but also the values of respect, inclusion, and community that distinguish our school and community.
