Q: What motivated you to become the principal of ITHS?
A: I began my career as a social studies teacher, and I really loved teaching at ITHS and working with students and colleagues. As I continued my education, I realized that I wanted to have an opportunity to work with teachers and students in a leadership capacity. After working as an assistant principal, I realized I wanted to continue to grow and become the principal of ITHS. I love working with the students, staff, and community of Island Trees.
Q: What advice would you give young girls who aspire to become leaders?
A: To any girl who aspires to become a leader: follow your dreams. It is so important to believe in yourself and to work hard toward achieving your goals. Confidence doesn’t always come easily, but it grows every time you push yourself, take risks, and stay committed to what matters most to you.
Do not be afraid to make hard decisions. Leadership often requires courage, and sometimes the right choice is not the easiest one. Follow your heart, trust your instincts, and know that your voice and perspective matter. You have something unique to offer, and that is your strength.
Never let anyone tell you that you cannot do something you believe in. There may be challenges or doubts along the way, but don’t let them define you. Surround yourself with people who support and uplift you, and continue to move forward with determination.
Most importantly, remember that great leaders are not only strong—they are kind, resilient, and willing to lift others up along the way. Stay true to who you are, lead with integrity, and never stop believing in your potential.
