On September 26, 2024 Hurricane Helene a category four Hurricane traveled from the west of Florida’s coast and was soon to impact the northern part of the south hitting states Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and North Carolina. The hurricane caused many outages and flooded many towns such as Asheville, NC. The hurricane took over 100 lives and many families were impacted as it changed much of the surroundings. The devastating hurricane caused power outages spanning from Tampa to Roanoke. Many areas were also targeted by mudslides and roads were washed away during the time Helene made landfall as many officials went to search for survivors. It is believed that more than 144 died in the southeast.
It was truly a tragedy for what happened. Many communities are still trying to rebuild and recover from this very recent hurricane. Many sources suggest that President Biden has proposed a supplemental bill to congress to cover the federal cost for Helene recovery and relief efforts. Aid to Asheville with their flooding and their housing was severely needed. Biden said himself, “We have to Jump-start this recovery process.” Also officials rushed to continue their search for the hundreds missing due to the storm. Many were mourning the tragedy and families were struggling to find each other.
To summarize, Hurricane Helen has taken the lives of 144 civilians down south and hundreds more went missing as government officials did their part by helping with search missions for the missing. Federal support funds have been sent to rebuild after the severe flooding and damage that was done.
