This week, I had the pleasure of interviewing ITHS Lax Star Olivia Cutrone!
Q: When did you start playing lacrosse?
A: I started playing lacrosse in 5th grade because I was inspired by my sister.
Q: Do you have a pre-game routine or superstition?
A: Before games, I like to go home and eat a protein-filled snack and drink Gatorade. Then, I go in my backyard and shoot around/wall ball to practice in-game scenarios to make sure I’m ready. When I get to the field, the team and I put music on the speakers and start to warm up. I keep a positive mindset and try to hype my teammates up.
Q: What does reaching 100 goals mean to you?
A: By reaching 100 career goals, it proved to me that I could do anything I set my mind to. Since last season, I dreamed of reaching 100 goals, but I started to doubt I would get it in my junior year since the last person to reach 100 goals in Island Trees ‘ history was 5 years ago, in her senior year. After I got the 100th goal, the amount of love and support I felt from everyone on the team, in the bleachers, and on social media was something I’ve never felt before, and it gave me a new level of confidence.
Q: What is your favorite part of the ITHS Girls Lax team?
A: My favorite part of the ITHS Girls Lax team is the “family” bond we have. After practice, everyone on the team carpools home together. Even when practice gets tough and extreme, the girls always smile and are just happy to be together, whether it is running, wall balling, or scrimmaging, our moods are always happy and positive. Everyone on the team pushes each other in a healthy way, which leads to our success as being undefeated in our conference.
Q: What are your plans for the future?
A: I plan on going to college to play lacrosse like my sister. I found that lacrosse helps distract me from any hardships or trouble, and it is a coping strategy. In my life, lacrosse gives me happiness and motivation. I am excited to go to school and play lacrosse there. I plan on majoring in education to be a math teacher or to go into marketing.
