On September 17, 2024, the Island Trees Varsity Volleyball team hosted a Lymphoma Awareness Game in honor of a fellow 2025 classmate who is battling this disease currently. The girls hosted a successful bake sale full of green-themed sweet treats to donate to Maya’s cause. Led by Coach Schultz, the players held a strong game and persevered against their opponent, Malverne. The rivalry was intense between each set, battling for every point with long-lasting rallies is how the girls secured a win. The final score came to be 3-2, but the sets came close every time, keeping everybody on the edge of their seats.
Great serve-receive came from Brooke Cappa (libero) with 8 digs. The passes made it possible for Avery Trivitt to set up Katie Reeves (outside hitter), Alexandra Piccoro (outside hitter), and Emily Tutka (middle blocker) for point-winning spikes. Other players, Kailey Hirschberg and Ava Pinto contributed to the efforts.
The Volleyball Team’s season continues into October where their ‘Volley For a Cure’ game will take place on October 9th at 6:45 (wear pink and come purchase merch) and Senior Night on October 18th at 6:45 as well. Follow ‘islandtreesvball’ on Instagram to continue seeing updates on their season.
