Island Trees High School hosted its Art Show on April 8th in the ITHS Gymnasium. Over 250 students showcased their work from Studio in Art, Digital Art, Drawing & Painting 1, Drawing & Painting 2, AP Art, Graphic Design, Photography, Sculpture, and Ceramics. Additionally, six Island Trees Bulldogs were awarded All-County honors in art. These students include Olivia Aldrich (Grade 12), Emily Tsai (Grade 12), Kayla Watson (Grade 12), Abigail Hilke (Grade 11), Danica Lamberti (Grade 10), and Haley Rutkowski (Grade 10).
When asked about her favorite part of the event, Ms. Weber said, “My favorite part of the High School Art Show is the opportunity to observe students attending with their friends and families, to share their year-long accomplishments. In addition, it is also magical to see artwork from all classes and mediums displayed together in harmony and balance. It gives students a chance to see what projects are created in different courses that they might not have taken yet. It is so special to celebrate creativity and talent with the Island Trees community, and these students deserve to be recognized!”.
Mr. Hedstrom and Ms. Weber’s art classes provide students with an opportunity to explore their minds and abilities in an expressive way. Ms. Weber states, “We experiment, we collaborate, we further learn to understand ourselves. All art classes are community-oriented, meaning friendships can be easily made and fun can be had! If a student demonstrates a strong interest in art, they may even be nominated for special out-of-district workshops and programs to continue their artistic exploration”.
When asked about her favorite 2024 “art memory”, Ms. Weber shared her excitement about the school’s new ceramic course. She shares, “We were so lucky to get multiple upgrades to our ceramic art technologies this semester, which have amplified the productivity and abilities within our growing ceramic art program! It has been such a gift, and it couldn’t have been possible without the support of our administration, construction crew, custodial staff, and especially our ceramic students who have shared their passions for the art and the course!”.
