Insider: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

An interview with one of our lead actors: Cody Chelune.

Ms. O’Neill: What is the musical about?

Cody: This show is about 2 con-artists living in France in the 1990s that are in a bet against each other to see who would be able to stay in the town and who would have to leave. They fight over an American girl named Christine. The show takes a lot of twists and turns and never goes flat, so it is very enjoyable!

Ms. O’Neill: What role do you play? Do you compare to your character in any way?

Cody: I play one of the two con-artists, specifically the older and more experienced one named Lawrence. Me and this character are very different people because I’m not an old rich man. This makes it so much more fun to play though because I get to step so far outside of my comfort zone.

Ms. O’Neill: How many songs are in the musical?

Cody:  There are around 20 songs in this musical.

Ms. O’Neill: What are you most excited about for the performance in March?

Cody: I’m excited to be able to show this show to my family and friends! We have all been working on it for so long so it is going to be very rewarding to finally be able to perform it.

Ms. O’Neill: Do you have any final last words as you are a graduating senior?

Cody: Thank you Mrs. McGrory and Ms. Stehl for an amazing 4 years 🙂

Ms. O’Neill: Do you plan on following through with musical theater in your future? What are your plans once you graduate?

Cody: I’m majoring in music education in college and that lends itself to theatre very well, so I’m sure that I will be involved in musical theatre for a long time.

The Island Trees Drama Club will be hosting their spring musical on March 7th (3 PM), 8th (7 PM), and 9th (7 PM) at Island Trees High School.
