The Island Trees Drama Club performed their fall drama, “Puffs”, on November 16, 17, and 18th. “Puffs” is a spin-off of the world renowned Harry Potter series, with the point of view of the Hufflepuff House. After their amazing performances over the weekend, I had the privilege to meet with Cody Chelune, Shaun Kenney, and Laura Lederer… the play’s lead roles.
Cody Chelune: Wayne
Q: “What did you enjoy most about preparing for the show?”
A: “The cast got really close during rehearsals. We were there every day for hours after school. It allowed us to bond really well.”
Q: “What was your favorite part of the show?”
A: “Definitely the Battle Scene.”
Q: “What are you looking forward to for the spring musical?”
A: “I’m looking forward to doing a show with music and songs in it! Music is my thing.”
Q: “In real life, what Harry Potter house would you be in?”
A: “My friends always say I would be in Gryffindor.”
Shaun Kenney: Oliver
Q: “What was your favorite part of the play?”
A: “I think it was meeting all of the new freshmen.”
Q: “What do you do before a performance to stay calm?”
A: “I look through my quizlet of all of my lines.”
Q: “Do you relate at all to your character, Oliver?”
A: “Yes.. I’ve always been really good at math and his character was a mathmagician.”
Q: “In real life, what Harry Potter house would you be in?”
A: “People have told me I would be in Slytherin.”
Laura Lederer: Megan
Q: “What is something you learned through this production?”
A: “I learned how to pace myself. There’s a lot of pacing. The show is so fast paced and I had to learn how to say my lines at a certain speed.”
Q: “What was your favorite part of the play?”
A: “The second act 100%. It was so on and off and a lot of energy. It allowed us to move so much faster.”
Q: “What is something valuable that Ms. Stehl and Ms. McGrory taught you?”
A: “Probably about the inner workings of the entire show. Specifically the backstage aspects and what happens behind the scenes. There was also a lot of specific terminology that I didn’t know before.”
Q: “In real life, what Harry Potter house would you be in?”
A: “I definitely think Hufflepuff.”
A big thank you to the Island Trees Drama Department for putting on such an amazing show. We appreciate the work Ms. Stehl and Ms. McGrory do for all our students that took part in making the production a success.
