On March 8th, Island Trees had the pleasure of sending a 4×2 relay to the New York State Indoor Track and Field Championship meet. The relay included Brianna McGowan, Kayla Portes, Brynn Ramsey, and Jillian Sandez. Each Bulldog played an imperative role in the relay. ITHS Junior Kayla Portes reflected on each member’s part in the relay:
“Each leg on the relay played a key role throughout the race. Brianna McGowan started as the first leg. She played a huge role in getting out fast, putting the team in a good position to make up ground on the other teams. Our second leg was Brynn Ramsey, who was vital in holding the position that Brianna was able to place the team in and keep other teams from opening the gap between places. I was the third leg and was responsible for making up as much distance and placement as was left of the race. After moving up a position, I handed off to ‘anchor’ leg, Jillian Sandez, who kicked it in for the end of the race to give the team a good finish.”
The relay placed 12th out of the Division 2 schools across New York State, with a time of 1:49. Great job girls!
