Hi I’m a Junior here at Island Trees High School, I play lacrosse. I have played lacrosse since 8th grade. In 8th grade there wasn’t going to be a lacrosse team. Either no one wanted to play or almost no one had ever played before. The coach went around the school just trying to get any 7th or 8th grader to join the team. We joined and she taught us everything from the start. We never won a game but it was one of the best seasons I ever had. I had so much fun.
I played my Freshman year but I stopped my Sophomore year. I stopped because throughout the season I didn’t like the sport as much due to many key factors. The sport itself is very fun, especially with the correct team. But at times it wasn’t fun for me anymore.
I didn’t feel committed to the sport. I wasn’t trying or giving all my effort into the sport. When it was time for lacrosse season Sophomore year I didn’t feel like it was something I would enjoy playing. So I decided not to play lacrosse that year. During that Sophomore year I realized I did miss playing the sport but it was too far into the season to rejoin the team.
This year, now that I am a Junior I decided to play again. Many of my friends are playing lacrosse and it also gives me something to do after school. So, I have two more years to play this sport in high school, so I’m going to take advantage of this. I decided I was going to play again this year. OUr pre-season practices have already started. There are open gyms once a week and I am having fun. Our season starts on March 17th, St.Patrick’s Day.
I am feeling very lucky and glad that I decided to go back to playing lacrosse this season.
