April 5, 2024, will go down in New York history as we experienced our first earthquake since 2011. This minor rattle was a 4.8 magnitude earthquake centered from Tewsbury, New Jersey.
Areas such as western Long Island, New York City, northern New Jersey, and parts of Pennsylvania were disturbed by today’s incident. Little to no damage has been reported during this brief shake; nevertheless, this event will be vividly remembered for New Yorkers that are not prone to experience such natural phenomenons.

When did you realize the ground below you was quaking?
I didn’t realize that it was an earthquake until Mrs. Sherry paused the documentary that we were watching. I thought that somebody might have been shaking their legs, causing the desk to shake.
What was your reaction?
I didn’t realize that it was an earthquake until Mrs. Sherry told us. I’ve never lived through an earthquake before, so it was a very new experience for me.
Well there is always a first for everything. We should be grateful there was no damage and no one was hurt. Let’s hope we do not experience another earthquake anytime soon.
