Have you ever seen the pond in the courtyard while looking out the window in class? Well, it belongs to the Island Trees Environmental Club, which just returned in 2021 from Covid-19. The club is run by President Emily Tutka, Vice Presidents; Alexa Flaherty and Megan McHugh, Secretary Kayla Ward and Treasurer Emma Dammers. Mr. Radcliffe, the former advisor recently retired from Island Trees making Mrs. Hare and Mrs. Shehaiber the club’s new advisers.
Our goal is to spread awareness about helping the environment and maintaining our koi pond. We do so by having seasonal meetings to introduce new animals like frogs, planting new plants, building/painting bird houses, installing pond micro nets and feeding the fish. Our social media pages spread awareness about nature holidays and updates followers about our activities.
This year, we plan to take our members on a beach clean up field trip and make more nature-friendly crafts. The environmental club is always accepting new members, so keep your ears open for our upcoming announcements.
